The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) define lone workers as employees or volunteers who ‘work by themselves without close or direct supervision’. For many of us lone working is a way of life– perhaps you’re simply the first to arrive or last to leave at your place of work or maybe a substantial part of your role involves home visits.
Our Lone Worker training enables you to assess risks when working or volunteering alone and to take action to reduce those risks. A good Lone Worker policy and system keeps people safe and helps organisations’ comply with Health and Safety legislation.
This course is aimed at:
People who undertake some form of lone working and those who manage lone workers
People whose job role means they work away from the main business location
People who work in others’ homes
Managers and support staff working with lone workers
There are no formal entry requirements to participate in this course.
Successfulcompletion of the course will lead to the following learning outcomes:
Carry out a simple lone worker risk assessment
Explore a range of lone worker systems
Understand health and safety legislation relating topersonal safety and lone working
Identification of a suitable system and what is requiredto implement and monitor it
Understand the consequences to the organisation andindividuals if failing to comply
Develop a lone worker policy and procedures

The HSE has the power to prosecute organisations, businesses and individuals who do not comply withHealth and Safety legislation. In 2010 a North East Charity was fined £30,000 with £20,000 costs following the death of a lone worker
